Merry Christmas, please accept this "Shawn-A-Sketch" with all the bells and whistles and have some fun. I have been thinking allot about childhood these past few months, especially since I have become a Dad twice over this year. I guess that's what inspired the Etch A Sketch theme for this year's card. I never want to lose that childlike wonder at creating something new. At struggling to learn and being indifferent to tools. Whether you are unwrapping your first Etch-A-Sketch as a child, or 8 core intel pro mac, the feeling is still the same and great design comes from that place. I miss the luxury of time children have...and this page is a statement about reconnecting with our earliest experiences with graphic design, an interface and the desire to be creative.
Well 2009 has been a great year for us despite its challenges. After accepting a web design position with Fruit of the Loom. the family and I find ourselves in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Overall it has been a great experience and I find myself learning and working with a great bunch of talented and dedicated people here. Although we miss our loved ones and friends on the east coast we are enjoying the good, clean environment here in Kentucky. We wish everyone a happy and joyous holiday season-Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and New Year to all. - Shawn
The Torres Brothers
This year has been quite a whirlwind of excitement for the Torres family. We experienced the birth of our beautiful second child, Marcus. Indeed, a great gift from God this year; Marcus Andre Torres was born April 1st, 2009. Xavier has adjusted well to his little brother and we think they will be quite a team some day. Marcus is almost nine months old now-crawling, attempting to stand and already annoying his big brother by trying to play with “his” toys. Xavier is fascinated with cars, trucks, and machines; he will be turning 3 years old December 27. - Michele
It is only now that I am realizing how much energy and love I have to give. Just when I think there is nothing else to give, I can look at these faces and go miles before I sleep, miles before I sleep. - Shawn
So what's new for 2010?
Word press has really evolved. In terms of functionality, ecommerce and development, the blogging cms is no longer just for blogs. This year I plan on cutting down my freelance projects to a select few. Friends of MOFO will be a rediscovery of the Word press platform and an exercise in personal expression. There are many things I want to share and my traditional portfolio site at shawntorres.com doesn't seem like enough anymore.
Now that the boys are moving past their infancy, Michele is ready to do some rediscoveries and reconnecting of her own. As many of you know, Michele worked in fashion technical design and production for a long time before becoming a mommy. This year we plan on launching her personal portfolio site at mstorres.com.
Fruit of the Loom is keeping me pretty busy. I am presently working on a complete relaunch of spalding.com. We are completely rebuilding the site from the ground up while keeping its great branding and design, the site will keep its "TRUE TO THE GAME" spirit while serving consumers with greater functionality and speed. I am really excited and happy to be working on this project, look for it in 2010.
Other works in progress include V.2 of modern gypsies.com and willithomaspatton.com sites. Yep, work, work, work...pass out, work, work, work...pass out...I LOVE IT :)
